They should be allowed. But there should be certain limits. The school is a very imp institution and it plays a very important role in shaping the lives of the coming generation. One needs to keep in mind that a school should not propagate consumerism n conspicuous behavior. Following fashion would create differences amongst rich and poor students. A school should instill feelings of oneness rather than promoting the widening of the gap between sections in the society. Uniforms help maintain uniformity amongst students and that is what is relevant. Its only in school where we learn how to respect other castes, cultures, religions n races. So, in order to make sure that our future generation is not materialistic and looks above these trivial issues, we should make sure that all such things are not allowed at school level.

they should be able to wear whatever they want as long as it doesn't break the dress code. it's not like they're wearing it just to make them feel better over others. besides, you can't even tell if clothes are designer unless the designer logo is on it

People should be allowed to wear WHATEVER THEY WANT within code.

For those using the "in crowd" argument,I grew up in a TERRIBLE neighborhood. Because of the district's policy in that city I was bussed to a richer area of town.

I went to school in garage sale clothing. If they had tried to implement a policy against expensive clothing or implement a school uniform I would have been against it.

Although I didnt get to wear the nice clothing that most of my classmates wore,I was still able to express myself as an INDIVIDUAL. I would prefer to wear garage sale clothes OF MY OWN CHOICE rather than what others want to tell me what to wear or not to wear.

There were a group of people about 70-75 years ago who began trying to make everybody think the same and dress the same. They started with the schoolchildren and stripped alot of their individuality and forced state thinking. Maybe you've heard of them.....they were called the Nazis.

Well my idea won't help you in your "essay" and so let me apologize beforehand. But doesn't that mean the so-called educational system has failed to engage students in the educational and learning process and curricula, by having to focus on marginal issues and in better words to make learning a battle for young creatures called humans that simply refuse anything they do not get its "why"? I think this is more of the problem.

Isn't it?

Arguments for allowing designer clothes:

— It's a free country. As long as the clothes are modest and appropriate for the season and the weather, and the shoes are not hazardous in hallways and on stairs, why not?

— People want to present themselves as attractively as possible. If there's something "over the top" about their designer wardrobe, somebody will be sure to give them the negative feedback. The school doesn't have to get involved beyond requiring modesty and safety.

Arguments against allowing designer clothes:

— They are conspicuously expensive. They present a tempting target for theft or vandalism.

— Students who can't afford a designer wardrobe may be looked down upon by the "in crowd" who can buy those things. There's enough trouble with cliques as it is.

There -- that should get you started ...
