Ordering shoes online, making sure I’m getting the right size ?

instant cynic asked:

I'm going to be ordering a pair of shoes from a website. I've never spent more than $10 on a pair of shoes, and these shoes are $100. The return/exchange policy is expensive and a pain in the bums too, and so I REALLY don't want to end up getting the wrong size of shoe.
Keep in mind that I'm talking about american standard shoe size as I try to phrase my question to the best of my ability...

I wear a size 6 womens shoe. I measured my foot and it's 8 inches long from my heel to the tip of my big toe.

The chart on the website says that a size 6 womens shoe is for a foot that's 9 5/8 inches long.

Here's the chart to help clear up my question:

I've never purchased shoes out of a catalog or on a website or anything before.
What am I supposed to make of this ?
If you can't get to the size chart, go to fluevog.com, click on 'HELP', then click on 'shopping FAQ'.
go to the 2nd question down, and there should be a link that says "standard sizing chart."
Okay, I wear a size 6 womens shoe (american standard size).
The chart says a size 6 shoe is for a foot that is over 9 inches long, and my foot is only 8 inches long.

I know what size my foot is, but the chart is conflicting.

you could try going into a shoe shop and trying on shoes with american measurements in them
then you can see what size you will need
